Proud to be Iranian,

You asked why I am proud to be Iranian. I tell you why. The reason is not the glory of the gigantic monuments and palaces of Persians, the endless territories, the first and the largest empire of all time, the birth of civilization and so on. I am proud to be Iranian because "Tolerance" was the key word of this nation. We are the first and for thousand years the only example of international religious freedom, we were the model of tolerance and respect for other cultures and religions that few great powers have ever reached.

I am proud of a man who said: "...... when my numerous soldiers in great numbers peacefully entered Babylon and moved about undisturbed in the midst of the Babylon, I did not allow anyone to terrorize the people of the lands of Sumer and Akad and ...... I kept in view, the needs of the people and all their sanctuaries to promote their well being. I strove for peace in Babylon and in all his other sacred cities. As to the inhabitants of Babylon who against the will of the gods were enslaved, I abolished the corvee which was against their social standing, I freed all slaves. I brought relief to their dilapidated housing, putting thus an end to their misfortunes and slavery ......". I am proud of the first charter of human rights.

I'm proud to be Iranian since unlike most large constructions in the old world, all these were not built by slaves. The workers were payed and enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle.

I'm proud to be Iranian. More than that, I'm proud to be a part of the human race.
